Tokyo, Japan (Odaiba) - Day 35

May 30, 2014

Odaiba located in Tokyo Bay, is a massive shopping and entertainment island. We allocated our entire day cause there was so much to do and see (+ shopping). I feel very regretful that I did not go to the National Museum of Emerging Science ("Miraikan") cause it looked so cool - there's robots, hand-on technology, etc.

The trip to Odaiba was somewhat pricey because a one-way trip cost ¥520 + there was quite a few transfers (45 mins trip). First we had to take the Marunouchi line from Ikebukuro station to Ginza Station then transfer to the Ginza line, to Shimbashi Station and finally take the Yurikamome line to Odaiba-Kaihinkoen Station.

For breakfast, orange juice and bread from 7-11.

The view from the special line to Odaiba was quite stunning cause had to cross the ocean.

The view while waiting for the special train to Odaiba.

Can see the Fuji building from the train.

First stop, some shopping at the DECKS building. Near the DECKS building, there's Aquacity shopping center and Divercity plaza. The Daiso here has a sticker picture booth and it only cost ¥200? It was very cheap but compared to the pricier ones, it's much plainer.

The Toilet seat cleaner.

At the upper levels there's a special area that show case the "Showa era" in Japan. This is the Island mall which is connected to the other malls.

This area really gives of the "OLD Japan" feel. There's toys, food, and candies from the showa era.

Odaiba Takoyaki Museum (free)

 Different Takoyaki flavours.

We got cheese flavor, regular octopus, and yam? It was hard deciding what to get because you have multiple takoyaki stalls housed together. Oh right, while we were eating we spotted some Japanese middle school children coming out of the horror house and one of the girls was crying, and then came a male classmate of hers who patted her on the back and hugged her. How CUTE! What a gentleman.

Takoyaki  ¥1260

After eating we headed outside towards the beach to take some pictures.

Fuji TV Station

Tokyo Tower in the distance

And I saw some school girls taking pictures so I took a picture of them. LOL. No HOMO. No PERVERT. I just like their uniforms. I wished my high school required cute uniforms like theirs. SAD.

Rainbow Bridge - at night it would lit up.

The fake statue of liberty.

Some kind of symbol??

After walking around the beach and taking pictures of statues, we went back in and walked around the mall some more and later decided to grab dessert at "Lemson's frozen Yogurt" in AquaCity. I got to say, it was quite expensive, it cost ¥680 for 1/3 of a cup. For that price, I could get a full one at menchies... We must have seemed pretty cheap to the employee cause me and my sister was sharing that one small frozen yogurt. After some desserts, we went to 3coins and bought some junk - everything was ¥300, hence the name "3coins."

Super close by to Aqua City Odabia was Divercity Plaza where the large Gundam was located.

There was a little trailer Gundam store near the Gundam Statue. Due to the small confined space in the trailer, and a lot of Gundam merchandise, it was CROWDED. Nevertheless, I did managed to buy a Gundam model for myself at ¥1645. My lesson learned, never buy it here, there are cheaper places. The next day I found a 2x larger and much cooler looking Gundam in Shinjuku for only  ¥2500. SO SAD.

Palette town - there's a car show here and also as you continue down towards the shopping area, the interior looks like Venice, Macau, Vegas, etc.

A large Ferris Wheel outside of Palette Town.

As we exited Palette Town, the sun was starting to set and we were getting hungry so we headed back to DiverCity and to grab dinner. We also noted the time for the Gundam show (the giant Gundam will move every now and then).

We grabbed something from the food court @ Divercity since the food court was right behind the Gundam.
Yakisoba for dinner ¥735

Still hungry after the Yakisoba, so we got udon too.

After dinner, perhaps 15 minutes before the show started we went to grab our seats, but it was already full. The good spots were already taken so we resorted to standing.

In conclusion, the Gundam show wasn't spectacular. The most it did was move it's head, the arms and feet a little and fart some gas, just kidding, let out some smoke from the back. There was a mini Gundam episode shown at the back, but in Japanese, and it reflects the Gundam's movements. There was a lot of flashing lights from the eyes and the body, but that's about it. It was quite a let down, cause I did expect something more.

As we were leaving Odaiba, we caught the nightview of Tokyo Tower and the Rainbow bridge. It was very pretty.
